In July of 2006, JDL staff designed and implemented a Video Furnace Video-Over-IP distribution system in the Nation’s fifth-largest school district; Clark County Public Schools, Las Vegas, Nevada. The system broadcasts 48 channels of Cox and Vegas PBS content across the District’s fiber network to many of the District’s 315 school buildings. |

In addition to the redistribution of Cox and Vegas PBS content, 30 of these schools have been equipped with VF-Portable Encode Stations, allowing them to deliver their own live broadcast from anywhere in the school, 24x7 on their own dedicated channel!
JDL Horizons has assisted the District in expanding this implementation since it’s inception to include several VF Set-Top-Boxes, allowing the schools to use their standard television sets to display content being delivered over the multi-cast network. |

Since it’s implementation, JDL Horizons has remained in close contact with the District to assist with ongoing support and software maintenance as well as provide guidance to District personnel as they roll the system out into new school buildings. Clark County School District estimates this solution is saving the District up to $200,000 in construction costs in new school buildings due to the lack of a need for a COAX cable infrastructure to support traditional Cable television (source: “Clark County schools give coax the 'ax'”, eSchoolNews; October, 2007). And for a District that opens between 7 and 10 schools per year, these cost savings have quickly become significant. |
